Statistics

ShortLink does more than shorten a link: it also counts clicks, to give you a sense of the reach of your distribution.

What is measured

  • Total clicks since the link was created
  • Unique clicks (based on distinct visitors)
  • Trend over time — curve grouped by day, week or month
  • Last recorded click
  • Referer — the page that sent the visitor to your link
  • Visitor browser language

These metrics appear on the link details page.

UTM parameters

If the URL used to reach the link contains UTM parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content), they are recorded on every click. This lets you tell channels and campaigns apart for the same short link.

What it is good for

  • Measure the performance of a marketing campaign
  • Compare multiple distribution channels (same link sent over Slack, email or print)
  • Confirm that an internal link has been opened
  • Spot when a link stops being clicked

Privacy

ShortLink only counts clicks and collects technical metadata (referer, language, UTM parameters). No personal visitor data is shown in the user interface: no individual profiling.

Going further

To multiply angles of analysis, create several links to the same destination — one per channel — or vary the UTM parameters of the same link depending on the distribution context.
